The Effect of Guided Inquiry Learning Model to the Metacognitive Ability of Primary School Students

Get PDF
This study aimed at analyzing the effect of guided inquiry learning to the metacognitive ability of primary school students on the material of Least Common Multiple (KPK) and Greatest Common Divisor (FPB). The type of study was a mixed-method using quantitative and qualitative methods. There were 55 students of 4th grade used as the subjects of study. Two learning models were compared, namely guided inquiry learning model and conventional learning model. The students’ metacognitive ability was measured by means of problem-solving test on the material of Least Common Multiple (KPK) and Greatest Common Divisor (FPB). The quantitative analysis data used descriptive and inferential statistical tests. According to the results of data analysis, it was discovered that the t-test of sig (2-tailed) from the independent samples t-test of post-test was 0,00 (p = <0,05); this indicated that there was a significant difference on it. This showed that there was a difference of students’ metacognitive ability for both classes in solving the problems of Least Common Multiple (KPK) and Greatest Common Divisor (FPB) after the guided inquiry learning was implemented. Consequently, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect on the implementation of guided inquiry learning model to improve the students’ metacognitive ability in solving the material problems of Least Common Multiple (KPK) and Greatest Common Divisor (FPB)

The Advantage of Slurry Ice as Cooling Media for Fish in Tropical Area

The result showed that slurry ice can decrease the temperature of carp (Cyprinus carpio linnaeus) to 00C in 14 minutes while conventional ice block only managed to drop the temperature to 2,50C with a P value of 0.029 > 0.05 (? = 5%).While on Mackerel (Rastrelliger neglectus), slurry ice could drop its temperature to 00C in 12 minutes whilst conventional ice blocks only managed to drop the temperature by 2,80C, P value of 0.0003< 0.05 (=5%). This paper illustrates that the use of slurry icecooling medium is very advantageous for cooling fresh fish that the fish will have higher price and quality. Slurry ice is a brine solution, which has a diameter of ice less than or equal to 1 mm, that can be pumped to refrigerate fresh fish products. This media is still not familiar in Indonesia because the technology has not been widely used by fishermen in the tropics. Local fishermen still use conventional cooling media in the form of ice blocks that are carried out by fishermen or fish farmers to cool the product. Tropical regions have different characteristics to subtropical, namely; the region have different seasons, thus affecting temperature and salinity of waters. This study aimed to prove the advantages of slurry ice cooling medium to drop the temperature of fish in the tropics. The method used was comparative analysis between slurry ice cooling media and ice blocks in the treatment of freshwater fish and seawater fish

In search of the radio frequency identification (RFID) implementation framework : lessons from the United Kingdom's public sector

This study presents a normative framework of the RFID implementation process in the UK public sector. It was motivated by the lack of socio-technical studies on the RFID implementation process in the UK public sector and the need for existing and potential RFID project managers to have an implementation model which could guide their effort in implementing any RFID initiatives in the sector. The study has been conducted through a combination of case study research and grounded theory research approach. Primary data have been collected from the in-depth interviews conducted with the RFID project managers from seven public sector organisations, i.e., five libraries and two hospitals. The analyses of the data were in two main stages. The first stage involved the analysis of the RFID implementation process in each of the organisations and the second stage involved a cross analysis of the RFID implementation process across the entire organisations. Potential contribution towards the existing body of knowledge on RFID implementation was in the form of a normative framework of RFID implementation process in the public sector. This framework describes the main and sub activities in the implementation process, and illustrates the dissimilarities and similarities between the implementation processes. Consequently, the implications of the study to the existing and potential RFID project managers in the public sector and also to the study of information system and RFID implementation are discussed.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo

DSS Implementation in UK retail organisations: A GIS perspective

No full text
Geographical information systems (GIS) are becoming more prevalent in both day-to-day and strategic decision-making by retailers. Given the array of internal and external databases they use and integrate, and the human and organisational development needed, a most apposite description of how a GIS may be introduced for retailing decision-making is "system implementation". There is little published work on GIS implementation as applied to retailing. Retailers wishing to understand the critical success factors of implementation cannot assume that studies from other industries can provide simple generalisations. This article presents exploratory case studies developed using a grounded theory approach, reflecting GIS implementation experiences of British retailers. Three major retailers who have already developed and utilised their GIS to varying degrees are used in a case study

A system developer's perspective of managing cirm implementation in local governments: lessons from Malaysia

This paper proposes a system developer?s perspective of the Citizen Relationship Management (CiRM) system implementation framework in the Malaysian local governments. The framework was developed based upon two in-depth cross-case studies which were conducted in two leading local governments in Malaysia. In addition to confirming the familiar determinants found in the literature, the paper also suggests the significance of "publicity" as a factor which should not be overlooked when CiRM implementation initiative is considered

Organizational determinants influencing information system reimplementation: some implications to the developing countries

This article presents an in-depth study of global Web-based Marketing Decision Support System reimplementation, in a British-based Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) manufacturer. The paper shows that the success of a system implementation can still be marginal even if the organisation understands the key organisational determinants of success and has influence over them. The paper concludes with a discussion of how implementation planning, user need analysis and communication problems could be overcomed and also some implications to the companies in the developing nations

Dissecting user requirements in developing information systems for the government agencies in less-developed region

No full text
Deciding on the need requirements of the users is one of the most challenging, and yet essential parts of the development of an information system (IS), particularly in the government agencies. Despite the rising significance of IS in the government agencies, only a limited effort has been made to identify the consequence of user needs, particularly less-developed regions. Most research efforts are found in developed or developing nations. This article presents the initial findings of an IS user needs of a leading government agency in the State of Sabah, Borneo
